Van Rental Chennai runs 14, 17 and 18 seater vans plus the Mahindra Tourister across Chennai and South India. Outstation trips are billed per km from Rs.22/km with a 300 km minimum per day, and the driver, fuel and toll are in the quote unless stated otherwise. Send your dates, route and group size on WhatsApp and we will come back with a fixed fare, usually within minutes.
The 14 seater is the one most families book. It seats 14 plus the driver, takes a full set of suitcases in the boot with a roof carrier for the rest, and is comfortable on a single day run to Tirupati or Pondicherry.
The 17 and 18 seater are for larger groups travelling together rather than splitting into two vehicles. Both run at Rs.26/km. Over a three day temple circuit that usually still works out cheaper than two 14 seaters, and it keeps the group in one vehicle, which matters on pilgrimage routes where everyone wants to arrive together.
The Mahindra Tourister and the Tourister Excelo sit at 13 to 17 seats depending on the layout and run at Rs.22/km with a lower driver bata of Rs.700. They are a good fit for a college trip or a corporate site visit where the group size is not fixed until the morning of travel.
If your group is under nine, a tempo traveller is usually the better call. If it is over twenty, look at the mini buses. Both have their own pages with rates.
Every route below has its own page with distance, drive time and the rate for that trip.
Temple routes in south Tamil Nadu normally leave Chennai by 5:00 AM so the group reaches in time for the morning kalasanthi darshan. Our drivers know the timings and will suggest a start time when you book rather than leaving you to work it out.
The fare covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel and toll where we have said so. Parking is at actuals, and an inter-state permit is charged separately when the route crosses into Andhra or Kerala. That permit typically adds Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,500 depending on the vehicle and the number of days.
There are no hidden fees. If something is not in the written quote, ask before you confirm and we will put it in writing.
Our drivers are Chennai based and drive Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Kerala routes regularly. They speak Tamil, know the toll points and the temple parking rules, and will follow temple dress code on request. AC is switched off inside temple parking zones and on the ghat climbs, which is normal practice and saves fuel and engine load.
Not every booking is outstation. Airport and Central station transfers, a wedding day where the vehicle stays with the family from morning to night, a corporate group moving between OMR offices and a hotel: all of these run on fixed hour and km packages rather than per km, because a day of waiting is not a day of driving.
Tell us the hours you need the vehicle and where it will wait, and we quote the package rather than the per km rate. For a wedding that usually means the van is with you from the muhurtham through to the reception, with the driver parked and on call in between.
A few things worth settling in the quote rather than on the morning of travel.
Luggage. A 14 seater carries 14 people comfortably but not 14 large suitcases. If everyone is bringing a full case, say so and we will fit a roof carrier or suggest the 17 seater instead. It costs less to plan this than to discover it at the pickup point.
Seat count versus comfort. The seat numbers are the legal capacity. On a ten hour run to Ooty or Kodaikanal, a group of 14 in a 17 seater will be noticeably more comfortable than the same group in a 14 seater, and the extra per km is small against the length of the trip.
Night driving and rest. On multi-day trips the driver needs a rest window. Long overnight legs back to back are not something we will agree to, because a tired driver on a ghat road is a risk we are not prepared to take with your group in the vehicle.
Permits. If the route crosses a state line, confirm the permit in the quote. It is a real cost and it is better in writing before you travel.
Call or WhatsApp +91 73055 59949 with your dates, route and group size. We send a written quote, an advance confirms the booking, and the vehicle is dispatched on the day. If your plans are still loose, send what you have and we will tell you what the options cost before you commit.

Short and medium-distance trips this vehicle is most booked for.
Outstation van rates start at Rs.22/km for the 14 seater and the Mahindra Tourister, and Rs.26/km for the 17 and 18 seater. A minimum of 300 km a day applies on outstation runs, and driver bata is Rs.800 a day on the 14, 17 and 18 seater and Rs.700 on the Touristers. The tariff table on this page shows the current rate for every van.
Fourteen passengers plus the driver. That is the legal capacity, not a comfort rating. If your group is 14 with a full suitcase each, tell us when you book and we will add a roof carrier or suggest the 17 seater, because the boot alone will not take 14 large cases.
In practice the seat count and the rate. Our vans run 14 to 18 seats from Rs.22/km, tempo travellers run 9 to 18 seats from Rs.23/km. Below nine passengers a tempo traveller or a car is usually the better value, and above twenty a mini bus is. Send your group size and we will tell you which works out cheaper for your route.
No, it is charged separately per day. Rs.800 a day on the 14, 17 and 18 seater vans, Rs.700 a day on the Mahindra Tourister and Tourister Excelo. It appears as its own line in the written quote so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Yes, an inter-state permit applies when the route crosses into Andhra Pradesh or Kerala. It typically adds Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,500 depending on the vehicle and how many days you are travelling. We put it in the quote before you confirm rather than adding it afterwards.
Yes. Local bookings run on fixed hour and km packages rather than per km, because a day where the vehicle waits is not a day of driving. Tell us the hours you need it and where it will wait, and we quote the package.
Most south Tamil Nadu temple routes leave Chennai by 5:00 AM so the group arrives in time for the morning kalasanthi darshan. Tirupati at 140 km is closer and allows a later start. We will suggest a departure time when you book rather than leaving you to work it out.
Yes. One thing worth knowing: drivers switch the AC off inside temple parking zones and on ghat climbs such as the Kodaikanal and Ooty roads. That is normal practice across operators, and it saves fuel and reduces engine load on a long uphill.
The vehicle, the driver, fuel, and toll where we have said so. Parking is at actuals and the inter-state permit is separate. If something is not in the written quote, ask before you confirm and we will put it in writing.
